The _s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k (or _s_e_a_r_c_h _t_o_o_l) contains named pages on which users can
create queries to find files. The user can launch _s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k from the
toolchest (Find > Search For Files) or at a Unix shell command line.
This application has the ``runonce'' feature, meaning only one instance
of the application will run at one time. Attempting to launch the
application a second time will have the effect of deiconifying the
application window or popping it to the top on the current desk.
The options have effects as follows:
----ffffiiiilllleeee Opens _s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k to a fresh, blank page.
_s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k_f_i_l_e
Specifies the criteria for a specific search. Defines the
configuration and setup of a _s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k page.
Each page contains a query area at the top, a Search button, and a
results area at the bottom. Search criteria can be added from the Match
menu on the menubar. For more information on the criteria, please refer
to the online books for help about the search tool. The user can switch
to different pages by clicking the left mouse button on the bottom tabs.
As in the _i_c_o_n_c_a_t_a_l_o_g, icons in the search tool are references to the
actual files. This differs from directory views. Icons can not be
dragged onto searchbook pages; icons appear there only if the user
presses Search or if the user makes a copy of a file icon already on that
page. Searchbook pages are shaded light gray (in the default IndigoMagic
color scheme) to indicate that icons can not be dragged onto them.
Operations such as "copy" or "make linked copy" on icons in the search
tool will create new files in the user's home directory.
The search tool remembers each page's query, contents, size, mode of
display, and which page the book is open to on each desk.
Searchbook pages can be derived either from the system's default Files
page or from a user's own new search pages. Pages derived from the
system's default page can be changed by the user. To return the system
default page to its original state, use the Remove command. A message
will confirm the user's removal of local changes.
For more information about the entire IRIX Interactive Desktop
environment, see the IID(1) man page.

The _s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k stores page information as the user defines the desired
search criteria under ~/._d_e_s_k_t_o_p-<_h_o_s_t_n_a_m_e>/_s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k or
/_u_s_r/_l_i_b/_d_e_s_k_t_o_p/_s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k/_s_y_s_p_a_g_e_s. The user does not need to alter
these files directly. The _s_e_a_r_c_h_b_o_o_k_M_a_r_k file records the currently open
page. The internal format of these files is not guaranteed to remain
constant between releases.

The user can create a page with the same name as the system default page
"Files." Searchbook can distinguish them, but to avoid confusion it is
recommended that the user rename the new page.
Sometimes after a match criterion has been removed or added, the vertical
sizing of the criteria lines will be wrong. To fix this, resize the
window vertically a bit.
